SECTION 2
Lesson 2.4 Moving your Data

It is a simple matter to drag and drop cells. First, select a cell by clicking on it, making it the active cell.

When you see the thick black border around the cell, move your mouse pointer over one edge of the border. You will see your pointer turn into a crossed arrow.

Hold your left mouse button down and drag the cell contents to a new location.

If you want to drag a selection, let your pointer hover over the middle of one of the cells. When the pointer turns into a thick cross.

Drag it to select the cells you want. Note that the selection is in column G.

Now let your mouse pointer hover over one edge of the thick border surrounding the selection. When it turns into a cross arrow

Hold your left mouse button and drag the selection to another area.

Note that the selection is now in column H, and is lower in the worksheet.

You can drag and drop cells pretty much anywhere in the worksheet. If you drag a cell with a formula, the formula will move to the place you drop it. If you drag a cell that is referenced in a formula, all formulas that reference the cell will be adjusted to reference the new location.

Be careful when dragging and dropping in a worksheet. It is easy to drag and drop cells by mistake when trying to perform other operations.
