SECTION 3
Lesson 3.3 Enhancing a Worksheet’s Appearance

In this exercise you will change the appearance of a worksheet.

1.

Start Excel 2003 and open the file named More Weather in your Excel 2003 Practice folder.

Hint: when opening files remember to check the recently used file list under the File menu.

2.

Select the top row, starting at cell A1, by dragging your mouse pointer.

Display the drop down colour palette by the Fill (bucket) button on the formatting toolbar, and select a colour (aqua marine).

3.

The top row will now be shaded with the colour you selected.

The next step is to apply a border to all of the temperature data. Using your mouse or the keyboard, select all of the data under the Temp labels (columns B, C, and D).

(Remember, you can select a range by clicking the first cell, pressing Shift, and then clicking the last cell)

4.

Select the All borders option from the Border button drop list on the formatting toolbar.

5.

You will now see borders applied to all of the temperature data. The next step is to select all the names in columns G and H by using the mouse or the keyboard.

6.

Now, choose Format->Cells from the menu bar, and click the Patterns tab on the Format Cells dialogue box. Choose a colour and a pattern from the available options. When you have made your selections click OK.

You have now added colour, patterns, and borders to your worksheet.

Save your work and exit Excel.
