Photoshop CS offers many new features that will appeal to general users, graphic artists, web designers, and digital photographers alike. The following list represents some of the more prominent new features in Photoshop CS.

New File Browser

The newly enhanced file browser in Photoshop CS allows you to customize the size of your preview thumbnail images. The new browser also includes a metadata palette to help you view and save a variety of searchable information with your images. The automation menu in the new browser provides access to a number of automated Photoshop tasks.

New Filter Gallery

The new filter gallery lets you preview and compare the filter effects at a glance, as well as letting you work with multiple filter effects simultaneously.

Shadow and Highlight Adjustment

This feature allows you to easily manipulate shadows and highlights in an image, without significantly altering the image’s mid tones.

Text on a Path

Photoshop CS allows you to add text to a path or shape that you create.

Photo Merge

The Photo merge feature allows you to seamlessly blend selected images together in a panorama.

Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts

You can now create and customize keyboard shortcuts for access to Photoshop features.

Customizable Help Menu

You can now find help faster, and even add your own “How to” items to the customizable help menu.

History Logging Feature

This new feature will help you keep track of the steps you take when editing an image by keeping a log (a text file if you wish) of you actions.

Large Canvas

The Photoshop CS canvas lets you work with images that are up to 300,000 by 300,000 pixels.

Colour Matching

Auto colour matching lets you automatically match colours from separate images. This can be helpful when trying to correct the colour balance in an under or over exposed image.

These are only some of the new or enhanced features in Photoshop CS. In addition, Photoshop CS also includes automated cropping and straightening of multiple images, improved compatibility with Macromedia Flash, an enhanced histogram palette that automatically shows alterations you make to an image, and much more.
