In
this practice exercise, you will go step by step through the process of
starting and exiting Photoshop CS. You will practice starting Photoshop
with the desktop icon, and with the windows start menu. You will close
Photoshop CS with the close button, and with the Ctrl + Q
keyboard combination.

First, locate the
Photoshop CS icon on your
desktop.
Double click the
icon with your left mouse button to start Photoshop CS.
If
the product activation window appears, click the
Cancel button in to remove
it.

The next window to
appear should be the Welcome Screen.

Click the
Close button on the lower
right to remove the Welcome Screen.
Note:
You can clear the check box at the lower left of the screen to
ensure that the Welcome Screen does not appear again When you
open Photoshop. |

Once the Welcome
Screen disappears, you are ready to start working with Photoshop
CS. |

Next, click the
close button (X)
in the upper right corner of the Photoshop CS screen.
The Photoshop CS
screen will close. |

Now, you will use
the Windows start menu to start Photoshop.
First, choose
Start -> Programs -> Adobe Photoshop CS
from the Windows start menu. The location of the
Adobe Photoshop CS menu item will vary from system to system
depending on the number of programs installed and on the
configuration of the Windows start menu (classic or new). If the
program is installed on your system, you should be able to
locate it in the start menu. |

If the activation
screen and the welcome screen appear, deal with them in the same
way as in steps 1 and 2. |

The Photoshop CS
program should now be open and ready for work. |

This time, press
the
Ctrl
key and
the Q key at the same
time. Photoshop CS will close just as before. |
