There are several ways to open image files in Photoshop CS. You can always browse to the location of the file of your choice with the Photoshop file browser, and then double click on the image thumbnail to open it. Another way to open a file with Photoshop is to choose File->Open from the Photoshop menu bar (use the Ctrl + O keyboard shortcut), and use a traditional file open dialog box to locate the file of your choice.
In this file open dialog box, use the drop list labelled Look in: at the top, or the icons at the left side to move to the correct location. Select the image file from the list of files displayed in the large center area, and click the Open button to open it. You can also choose File->Open Recent from the Photoshop menu bar to see a list of files that were recently opened. Simply click on a filename in the recently opened list, and it will open in your Photoshop screen.
You can also navigate to the image file that you want to open without using Photoshop. When you have found the image file that you want to work with, right click on it and select Edit with Photoshop from the menu items that appear. This action will launch the Photoshop CS program and open the selected image.
You can also start Photoshop and choose File ->Open As from the Photoshop menu bar. This will display the Open as dialog box, which is almost identical to the Open dialog box previously discussed. In this dialog box, you can browse to the file of your choice, and then select the file type that you want the image to be opened as from the pop up list provided at the bottom. When the image is opened, it will be opened as whatever file type you select.
The Open As dialog, with the list of possible file types displayed.
