Some times, you may want to use Photoshop CS to create your own graphics from scratch. If you want to work with Photoshop, without basing your work on some pre existing file, you can always create a new file from scratch. To do this, just select File ->New from the Photoshop menu bar (you can also use the Ctrl + N keyboard shortcut). This will display the New dialog box as shown below.
Enter a name for the file in the field provided, and select an opening format from the drop list labelled Preset:
You can see information for the resolution, dimensions, colour mode, and background contents of a given preset in the text boxes provided. You can use the down pointing arrows at the right of the text boxes to select different background content, colour modes, and dimensional units. When you have all of your preferences selected, click the OK button to create the new file.
If you choose Default Photoshop Size as the preset type, and name the new file Test Canvas, your Photoshop CS screen should look something like the following. In the center of the screen, you will see a blank canvas entitled Test Canvas that will serve as the starting point for your work.
