SECTION 2
Lesson 2.1: Introduction to the Photoshop Toolbox

The next cluster of tools contains the notes tool (upper left), the eyedropper tool (upper right), the hand tool (lower left), and the zoom tool (lower right).

The Notes tool (discussed in lesson 1.3)

Used to add written or spoken notes to a Photoshop document.

The Eyedropper tool and its related variants

Used for changing foreground and background colours and for exploring colour and distance data.

The Hand tool

Allows you to use your mouse to move an image around within its viewing window.

The Zoom tool

Will allow you to increase or decrease the magnification level of an image. The zoom number presented in the status bar is displayed as a percentage of the images actual size. If your mouse has a wheel button, you can use it to zoom in and out).

The colour tools are used to modify and select the foreground and background colours. In the default settings the foreground colour is black, and the background colour is white. When you select different background or foreground colours, you will see the selected colours on the tool buttons. Here you can see that the foreground is black, and the background is white.

When you click the curved double headed arrow at the upper right of the colour tools, the foreground and background colours will switch back and forth. If you click the small overlapping squares in the lower left of the colour tools group, the foreground and background colours will be returned to their default values.
