SECTION 1
Lesson 1.2: Optimizing Your Computer

While Windows XP comes with built-in features, you will not see all of the features which can be enabled. Most of these other features are only used in situations where a specific component, service, or feature is required. The Windows Components Wizard (Add/Remove Windows Components) allows you to add or remove components of Windows XP. This may include such features as Fax Services, Internet Information Services, Windows Messenger, and Print Services for UNIX.

For each component listed a Details button is available. This allows you to select sub-components to add or remove. When you are finished, click the Next button to continue.

To add or remove windows components, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Open the Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click the button on the left hand side for: Add/Remove Windows Components. (The following box will appear for a brief moment. The Add/Remove Windows Components window will follow.)

  1. Check the desired options you wish to add or remove and click the Next button to finish the process.
