SECTION 1
Lesson 1.3: Troubleshooting Your Computer

The Driver Rollback feature included with Windows XP allows you to “rollback” to a previous working hardware device driver. This is especially useful when updating drivers for your listed hardware devices. When you install driver updates for your devices and reboot your computer, sometimes a conflict error can occur, preventing functionality of the related device and sometimes causing other issues to spawn.

To relieve this conflict quickly (until troubleshooting can be done) you can use the driver rollback feature to use the prior existing driver. This feature is also useful for those who like to test beta drivers or non-compatible Windows XP drivers for their devices.

To use the Driver Rollback feature, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Control Panel and the Performance and Maintenance icon.
  2. Open the System icon.
  3. Select the Hardware Tab, and click the Device Manager Button.
  4. Right Click the device you want to roll back the driver on, and select Properties.
  5. Select the Driver tab and click the Roll Back Driver button.
