With the steps above you learned how to share a newly created folder. You can also share other resources such as CD-ROMs, scanners, and printers. Sharing these resources are similar to sharing a folder in that you can usually find a sharing option in the properties of the device. For example, let’s go through the steps for sharing a printer.

  1. Open the printers and faxes window from within the Control Panel or Start Menu.
  2. Right Click on the default printer and select Sharing.
  3. Under the Sharing tab select the radio button for: Share this printer.
  4. Hit the OK button.

 

Now that we have a shared folder and printer, another computer can access the folder or use the printer. To access the folder they can use My Network Places and to install the printer they would use the Add Printer Wizard and select the option for a Network Printer. You can also share other network devices like floppy drives, scanners, and backup drives
