SECTION 4
Lesson 4.3: Windows Messenger

Windows Messenger comes pre-installed with Windows XP and uses the .NET Messenger Service. The .NET Messenger Service allows for real-time communication over the Internet with other people who use Windows Messenger.

To sign in to .NET Messenger Service you need a .NET Passport, available for free from www.hotmail.com.

Below is a list of some of the things you can do with Windows Messenger:

  • Create a contact list.
  • See when these contacts are online (available to talk), allowing you to send text messages back and forth.
  • Send pictures, music, or documents to people on your contact list.
  • Participate in a video/voice conversation using your microphone, speakers, and camera.
  • Use ink to write instant messages (for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition).
  • Use Whiteboard, allowing someone to look at a program on your computer together.
  • Use Remote Assistance to have someone help you with your computer.
