Lesson 2.3: The Search Companion

   



 

As mentioned earlier we can change the search preferences for the Search Companion. When you click this option it asks, “How do you want to use Search Companion?” Its options consist of:

 

Without an animated screen character

Disables the animated screen character so it is not shown.

With Indexing Service

(for faster local searches)

Allows you to enable or disable the indexing service. (This is a service that indexes files on your hard disk when it is not in use to allow for faster searches. This will also take resources of your computer.)

Change files and folders search behaviour

Allows you to change the search behaviour from Standard to Advanced. The standard search behaviour will prompt you with helpful questions and guide you through your search, while the advanced option will take you to the Search Files and Folders section automatically.

Change Internet search behaviour

Allows you to change the Internet search behaviour from using the Standard Search Companion search or the Classic search. The standard search will automatically send your search to other search engines, while the advanced search allows you to select a default search engine.

Don’t show (or show) balloon tips

Enables or disables balloon tips. (Balloon tips are the yellow balloons which appear containing helpful information when you pause your mouse over an item.)

Turn off/on auto-complete

Enables or disables auto-complete. Auto-complete will attempt to complete the phrase you are typing.
