Lesson 2.4: The Accessories Menu

   

 

 

The Communications sub-menu provides you with all of the necessary tools for all of your communication needs. These tools allow you to create many types of connections like VPN, High-Speed Internet, modem, infrared, and many others. With these tools you may transfer data to and/or from other computers through various methods. Below is a list of the available options in the Communications sub-menu.

 

Hyper Terminal

A telnet program. (Telnet is a terminal emulation program for the Internet and networks. It is an older command-line based program used to remotely connect to and control other computers.)

Network Connections

Displays shortcuts to shared computers, printers, and other resources on the network. The shortcuts are created automatically in My Network Places whenever you open a shared network resource, such as a printer or shared folder. (Also available through the Control Panel.)

Network Set up Wizard

Guides you through setting up your home or small office network. (Also available in the Control Panel.)

New Connection Wizard

Used for creating a new network or Internet connection. (Also available in the Control Panel.) Network connections provide connectivity between your computer and the Internet, a private network, or another computer.

Remote Desktop Connection

Allows more than one user to have active sessions on a single computer allowing you to remotely connect to another computer and “take control” of a desired user account.

Wireless Network Set up Wizard

Guides you through setting up your home or office wireless network. (A wireless network can be connected to the Internet or an internal network.)
