SECTION 3
Lesson 3.4: Add Or Remove Programs

This icon will open the Add or Remove Programs window. This is the central location for adding, removing, or modifying installed programs and Windows components. The majority of the window lists your installed programs and pertinent information (such as Size, Used, and Last Used On). This way you can use the Sort by option at the top of the window to sort by category. There will also be a Show Updates checkbox available at the top of the window. This enables or disables viewing installed Windows XP updates.

There are also some helpful options on the left preview pane of the window. These are:

Change or Remove Programs

Your current window.

Add New Programs

Add/Remove Windows Components

Launches the Windows Components Wizard. This wizard easily allows you to add or remove a component of Windows XP. Once a feature has been removed you will not see it in your Start Menu area. A Details button is also available for some components.

Set Program Access and Defaults

Included with Service Pack 1, this program allows you to customize the default program for certain activities like browsing, e-mail, and media.
