Lesson 3.5: Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices

   

 

This icon will launch the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window. This is the central location for customizing your windows sounds and audio devices. The available tabs are Volume, Sounds, Audio, Voice, and Hardware.

 

Volume tab

Has two sections for customization of your sound: Device Volume and Speaker Settings.

 

Device Volume controls the master volume through a slider-bar option. Checkboxes are also available for Mute and Place Volume Icon in the Taskbar. The Advanced button will open the Volume control applet.

 

Speaker Settings lists two buttons for adjusting speaker settings: Speaker Volume and Advanced.

Sounds tab

Provides customization of your Windows sound scheme. The scheme is applied to events in Windows. You can select an existing scheme from the pull down menu or save your own modified theme. To modify the current theme simply select a Program Event and change the sound by browsing for a file.

Audio tab

Provides options for settings your default sound devices The available options are: Sound playback, Sound Recording, and MIDI music playback. Most buttons in this area will re-direct you to previously covered windows.

Voice tab

Provides Voice Playback and Voice Recording options for setting your default voice sound devices. A Test Hardware button is also available which will re-direct you to the Sound Hardware Test Wizard to test your sound capabilities. Note: Most buttons in this area will re-direct you to previously covered windows.

Hardware tab

Lists the installed sound devices which all play a role in making your sound function. To see the properties of each device, highlight the device from the list and click the Properties button.
