SECTION 3
Lesson 3.4: Customizing Graphics

When you create a drawing in Word, you do so within an area called a drawing canvas. This gives your drawing its own space in Word, allowing you to easily edit it.

To start a new drawing, click the Insert menu, choose Picture, and click Drawing. You’ll see a drawing canvas appear in the editing window, like this:

You can make this canvas bigger or smaller by dragging any of the dark handles to make it the size you want, like this:

If you would like to format the canvas more precisely, you can right-click on it and click Format Canvas, or double-click the canvas. You’ll see the Format Drawing Canvas dialog pictured on the right; you’ll notice that it’s almost the same as our Format Picture dialog box. Here’s a quick review of all the options available on each tab:

-          Colours and Lines: Choose a fill colour, transparency effect, or border colour for your canvas.

-          Size: Set the height, width, and scale.

-          Layout: Set text wrapping options.

-          Web: Enter alternative text for your canvas.

Now you’re ready to draw!
