SECTION 2
Lesson 2.1: Creating a Web Page

First, let’s learn how to create an HTML file. There are several ways to do this; the easiest way is just to create a new Word document. Then, click the File menu and click Save As.

You can choose a number of formats: XML, an archived Web page (MHTML), a regular Web page (HTM or HTML) or a filtered Web page (also HTM or HTML). For our purposes, we’ll use a regular Web page.

Once you choose this type, you’ll have an option to set the title of the Web page. This title will appear in the title bar of the user’s browser.

Just click the Change Title button to enter your title in this dialog:

Once the title has been entered, click OK and then click Save to return to your document. Once you are back in your document, Word will automatically switch to Web view for you. (You can of course change it by clicking the View menu and choosing another layout.)

Here are a few things to remember about Web view:

-          Margins will not appear on the screen.

-          Text is not broken into pages.

-          Text and graphics appear here exactly as they will in a Web browser (provided that the user has the same screen resolution as you).

-          The vertical ruler is hidden.

-          Headers and footers are hidden.
