Lesson 3.2 Creating a Table of Contents

   

 

 

The last method of marking text for inclusion in a table of contents is by using outline levels. This is probably the way that’s hardest to understand; you probably won’t want to use it unless you’re drafting a table of contents (rather than creating a finished table).

 

Marking your text using this method is still pretty easy. First, switch to outline view (using the View menu). Next, make sure the outlining toolbar is open. Then, select your text and use the Levels drop-down menu to identify it.

 

 

Note that this will not change your text, it will just mark it as a certain level. As well, you can use both custom styles and heading styles to mark your document, but outline styles must be used on their own.
