Lesson 2.1: Working With Templates

   

 

 

1.

Make sure Microsoft Office Word 2003 is closed.

 

 

2.

Click the Start menu and click All Programs (or Programs).

 

 

 

Click New Office Document.

 

 

3.

In the templates dialog box, click the Letters and Faxes tab.

Click Letter Wizard.

Click OK.

 

 

 

4.

You’ll notice that this letter wizard looks a bit different from the calendar wizard, but the concept is still the same.

 

For the first dialog box, choose One Letter and click OK.

 

 

 

5.

In the first step, specify this information:

-          Date line: Day, Date, Year

-          Include header and footer (checked)

-          Page design: Contemporary Letter

-          Letter style: Full Block

 

Click Next.

 

 

 

6.

In the second step, fill in this information:

-          Recipient’s name: Scoobert Doo

-          Delivery Address:

            21 Mystery Lane

            Coolsville, USA

            56789

-          Salutation: Formal

 

Click Next.

 

 

 

 

7.

 In the third step, fill in this information:

-          Reference Line: In regards to: Scooby Snacks

-          Attention: Attention: Scoobert Doo

 

Click Next.

 

 

 

8.

In the last step, type in this information:

-          Sender’s name: Your name

-          Return Address: Your address

-          Complimentary Closing: Best Wishes

-          Job Title: President

-          Company: Snackers Inc.

-          Enclosures: 1

 

Click Finish.

 

 

 

9.

In the new document, select the sample paragraph that starts with Type your text here.

 

 

 

10.

Type this text: We know you’re a huge fan of our Scooby Snacks, so we’re sending you a free sample of our new flavour, Chocolate Pickle. We hope you enjoy it!

 

 

11.

Save your document to your desktop as Scooby Letter.doc.

 

 

12.

Press Alt and 8. Nothing should happen.

 

 

13.

Click the Tools menu and click Templates and Add-ins.

 

 

 

14.

Click Attach.

 

 

 

15.

Browse to your sample files folder. Click the Sample Template and click Open.

 

 

16.

Click OK in the Templates and Add-ins dialog.

 

 

17.

In your document, you should see a new toolbar.

Press Alt and 8; the Japanese Greetings dialog should appear.

 

 

 

18.

Cancel out of the Japanese Greetings dialog box.

Close Microsoft Office Word 2003.
